OMNA Marine Tourniquet (OMT) Wetsuit Application

ABSTRACT

Background: The OMNA Marine Tourniquet (OMT) is a 5.1cm-wide, simple redirect buckle, hoop-and-loop secured, ratcheting tourniquet designed for storage and use in marine environments. Methods: The OMNA Marine Tourniquet (OMT) was applied in the hasty method on the right thigh over a 7mm thick wetsuit. A doppler ultrasound was used to observe the venous and arterial flow of the Dorsalis Pedis Artery in the right anterior foot dorsal to the tourniquet application. Results: After 3 clicks of the marine ratcheting buckle the doppler ultrasound flow was occluded. Conclusions: The OMT is effective in arterial limb occlusion when applied over a 7mm wetsuit.
